Parenting a teenager

I don't know that I've posted about Kiddo much since he hit teenagehood. I love it.

He's becoming independent, he's stepping into his own power, he's become curious about me and my life and there's enough space for me to be my own person.

There might be more to say, but having a teenager is pretty awesome in some ways. Way better than I heard about.

That's really not ok. I hate that so many people think teenagers are horrible. It's just not ok.

As I rolled up towards the front door the other day, I wondered "Hey, who's that man standing on the front steps?" And then I realized "Omigod, it's [Kiddo]!" It was an interesting experience observing my brain flickering back & forth between "he looks like a man, although young" and "he looks like the boy I've known for some time, getting older". Almost like looking at the duck/rabbit illusion. *grin*

If you're interested in the unsolicited opinion of somebody who has no children and no childrearing experience... I am very impressed with the job you've done (and continue to do) rearing him. He seems remarkably self-possessed for a person of his age. I enjoy talking with him when I see him.

I love that my impressions of him are not just on the inside of my head. I think he's doing pretty well myself and I'm impressed at how he is with others. And yeah, he's growing up fast!
